All right, about the drawing. I actually purposely put nothing on him, no ciphers, no codes. He has no symbolism...because irony. The colour scheme however, is supposed to reflect the colour of the journals (and because a white waistcoat looked terrible when I tried it). He is simply known as F. He has six fingers on his left hand. I love his nose. What more do you want me to say? Book 4.

Hey, I know that people have been theorising that McGucket wrote the books, but I really doubt that they'd leak that so early. Besides, that's too easy to think. Watch the whole thing be like Hot Fuzz where multiple people are responsible. The writers of this show are too good to make it that easy...unless they are really going to disappoint everyone....

Yes, McGucket's name starts with an F.
Yes, He wears the bandage on his hand which might allude to him having had an extra finger removed
Yes, there is that debatable leaked image of him "writing" a journal

BUT, I really smell a red herring here. I really do.

My Theory on the Author of the Journals:

SPOILERS AND WHATNOT

While Fiddleford McGucket was clearly going to be the author of at least one of the books, I pray the writing team for Gravity Falls has something better planned. My theory is that there are several authors of the journals. Many viewers believe that there is an Order in Gravity Falls. That could explain the change in Stan's hat half way through series 1.

McGucket, though possibly the writer for the books (I mean, the person who literally sat down and placed the words on the pages) might not be the sole author. This Order could have all worked on the books.

Grunkle Stan does fit into the timeline where he could have taken part in authoring the journals. People have placed the author as someone who is good at machinery, knows the town, and does not know Bill. It has not been confirmed that the author is F (or Fiddleford). Well, besides McGucket, Stan fits the bill for those categories. Also, the bit about a "Blind eye" might not be so much the idea that McGucket is ever-watchful, but never seen, or maybe not even the more literal interpretation that Stan wears an eye patch at times, but that the Order is watching.

This Order, in a combined effort, wrote the books. They did it in secret. Perhaps some information has leaked and certain figures in Gravity Falls know certain things, but no one but the Order knows everything.

Now, how does that justify the episode with the Fallout Shelter? The author was in that fallout shelter at some point. Now, Stan has a six-fingered glove, but McGucket's been known (allegedly) to have had six finger. What is there relationship? The shelter had enough supplies to last decades, which means that time travel might prove significant in all this. My original theory was that Dipper (who's name might very well begin with F) wrote the books in the future, but I do not think that'd pan out (Honestly, I don't think this one will either, but it's my theory so shut up). My new theory on Dipper is that his real name could possible be Stanley. Just roll with it.

Stan has some fixation on his likeness (i.e. the wax statue), so that is where people draw the theory of his brother or that he changed places with his brother with Experiment 78 (that was the #, right?). The reason he might have opened the portal would be to find this alleged brother. However, could not he have tried to replicate his brother by helping to create the Shifter along with MCGUCKET, and perhaps others? The timelines add up, people. I will amend my theory if you find flaws, but please feel free to point out flaws.

And don't even get me started on Stan's brother...if you want to discuss/debate, feel free. I really want to hear everyone's theory. I feel there are a lot of red herrings and conspiracies that, for the sake of ambiguity, will never be revealed, or that are not so much as we think. Does Soos know more than he lets on? Is Robbie a zombie? Is Gideon only a puppet? Is Waddles significant? I don't know. I have theories, but until we find out, we'll have no idea.
